What is life’s true purpose? How can I know if I am walking in my purpose? These are questions that we so often struggle with and find them difficult to answer because they mean different things to different people. Many say that life is a blessing from The Most High to be lived to its fullest. Some would say, that it is an opportunity to experience every pleasure that the world has to offer in the time allotted to us. In other words, “You only live once”. There are others that compare life to a game of strategies and maneuvers where they create the rules and their actions determine the outcomes, because in that reality they get to decide how, who, where or what they spend their time on as if they live in a bubble and life is all about them. The Most High created us to fulfill His plans, His will and purpose in the earth, not our own and He is subject to nothing and no one, including our plans, wants and desires.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith The Most High, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11).
“The steps of a man are established by The Most High, and He delights in His ways” (Psalm 37:23).
Living in This Fallen World
Most of us realize from living in this fallen world, that life is a journey filled with winding roads, barricades, detours and U-turns. We also understand that life is a test where there will be a number of passes and failures, near misses, and re-takes and that it is not how many re-do’s we have, but our grade at the end that matters. From experience, we know that life is a race where obstacles and hurdles will riddle our path more times than not, where we will have to ultimately decide whether jumping, climbing, going around or through them, or simply stepping back will be the most efficient use of our God-given time. Understand that nothing in this world is always what it appears to be, so clearly your survival is dependent on much more than just luck, or your skill and will to survive. The Most High uses every experience, both good and bad, in your story to bring Him and His Kingdom all the glory so you have got to learn to,
“Trust in The Most High with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths’ (Proverbs 3:5-6).
“Submit yourselves therefore to The Most High. Resist the devil, and He will flee from you” (James 4:7).
We Have Been Conditioned
We have been conditioned to believe the well-connected, the physically strong and the esthetically beautiful have it all, so we spend hundreds of millions of dollars each year on cosmetic and plastic surgery, and the fitness and wellness industries to get our bodies tight and minds right, but in all the hoopla we forget the true essence of who we are and our life’s purpose. We don’t even see that we are losing the battle before we even go to war and that though we spend so much time on the physical, our Spirits have been deprived and as a result are malnourished and weak. Trust that it is no coincidence that the Enemy has caused us to focus outwardly rather than inwardly and upwardly because he it’s our spiritual conditioning and strength that can and will do the most damage to him and his kingdom in the end. He laughs because he knows that all the physical stength and muscles in the world will not be enough to contend with him and his demons. When your Spirit is operating optimally, the devil and demons have no other recourse and must flee.
Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of The Most High’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to The Most High-this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and prove what The Most High’s will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).
“For The Most High hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness” (1 Thessalonians 4:7).
“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:8).
“And those who are in the flesh cannot please The Most High” (Romans 8:8).
Another in the Win Column
I know that many will not agree, but life is not a pleasure trove to live out every fantasy. Life is not about being entertained or physically stimulated every waking moment. It is not about making it rain from the ceiling to the floor or striving for all the riches one can obtain in this world. Contrary to popular belief, our Creator did not give us life to go after every fleshly desire and to “do what thou wilt” because the flesh is wicked “and lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would” (Galatians 5:17). Understand that the mantra “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” is a lie from the pits of hell for everything you do in the dark, The Most High sees and Satan hears about it and thinks, “Another in the win column”. The sum of your life is and will be about making choices and those choices have spiritual consequences that will determine what side you are really on. Choose wisely.
“When a man’s ways pleases The Most High, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with Him” (Proverbs 16:7).
Living a Life Pleasing to The Most High
At the end of the day, the purpose of your life isn’t about pleasing yourself or others but doing that which is pleasing in the sight of The Most High. When you seek after what the flesh wants, you become a slave to it and it seeks to dominate everything including your Spirit. Understand that living for the flesh, will keep you spiritually blind and fighting from a defensive posture (which is right where the Enemy wants you), to your eventual defeat rather than positioning yourself in an offensive stance to stand in victory until the end. At the end of the day, the purpose of your life is very clear, succinct and needs no further clarification. For “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear The Most High and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Anything less, by default means that you are fighting for Team Satan.
My hope is, “That you may live a life worthy of The Most High, and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of The Most High being strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness” (Colossians 1:10-11) and gladness choosing righteousness and not lawlessness to rule your life.
