Be strong in Yah and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of Yah, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:10-11). To protect ourselves from the evil schemes of the enemy,
James 4:7 tells us to, “Therefore submit yourselves to Yah. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
The guns, knives, grenades or bombs; the weapons of physical warfare, will not save us on the spiritual battlefield, nor will running and hiding sustain us. This is because, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). Arming ourselves with the physical weapons of war will do nothing to deter the enemy’s attacks. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in Yah for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Yah, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Yahusha.”
Standing Firm – Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual warfare requires the proper weapons. Paul gave us the plan to resist and to stand firm against the devil as he implores us in Ephesians 6:13-18 to, “Therefore put on the full armor of Yah, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of Yah. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests“.
I am reminded of a scene in one of my favorite movies, “The Matrix” (the first installment that is), which I saw ten times in the movie theater and have seen like a hundred times since its release in 1999. During one of the training simulations, Morpheus tells Neo how every single man and woman who has stood their ground or who has ever fought an agent has died and that they have survived largely by running and hiding from them, but where they have failed, he (Neo) will succeed. He goes on to tell Neo how he has “seen an agent punch through concrete walls and that men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air but yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be”. Neo’s response is, “What are you trying to tell me…that I can dodge bullets?” Morpheus replies, “No Neo. I’m trying to tell you that when you are ready, you won’t have to.”
When We Are Truly Ready
Spiritually, the movie touched me because I think it is so symbolic and indicative of the struggle we face and the plight of good vs evil. The agent (Satan) is relentless and ruthless, desperate to destroy all of mankind. He will take the fight to us every chance he gets, that is a given, but we are not to cower away in fear or run and hide. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). We are to stand firm on the word of Yah and have faith and believe that the Yah in us is more powerful than anything the Devil can and will throw at us. To distract or impede us is the enemy’s purpose and he is well equipped for the task at hand and is a master of his craft. He has had ample time to hone his skills in the spirit realm so he does his job well, but rest assured that when we are ready, no lie the devil can tell will stick; no temptation that he will bring will have a victory over us, no arrow he will shoot will land or hit us; no power that he can weld will overtake us. When we equip ourselves with the proper weapons of spiritual warfare while feeding and strengthening our spirits with the word of Yah, there will be no need to run, hide, jump and scale over walls, etc. When we are truly ready, we won’t have to.
