Pressures of the World

Pressures of the World

By Kendra Clarke

The world can oftentimes place an enormous amount of pressure on its inhabitants. Between work and paying bills, school and studying, raising children and our growing family responsibilities, it is no wonder we struggle with having enough hours in a day. As the pressures continue to mount and weigh on our shoulders, we begin to feel as though we are nothing more than our families, jobs, titles, degrees, accomplishments and achievements. When the dust settles and we have had time to decompress and just be still for a moment, we begin to question the daily grind and routine of life.

Our spirits know that there is more to life than this, but we so easily lose ourselves chasing after the worldly treasures and pleasures of the flesh.  The more pressure the world places on us to conform, the more energy we expend as our focus is directed not toward godly things but on obtaining worldly things. In the end, wealth, popularity, fame and notoriety mean absolutely nothing to God. He focuses only on eternal things and seeks to imbue us with His wisdom and to guide us on this journey we call life.

“For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father, but is from the world” (1 John 2:16).
