Same Ole Lies

By: Kendra Clarke
“The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will be yours”. Yahusha answered “It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only” (Luke 4:5-8).

The Same Ole Lies

Those are the same ole tired lies that the devil uses, even today, to entrap Yah’s children and sadly, many still fall for it hook, line and sinker. He promises all the riches and splendor of this world, which he says belong to him, as clearly he is the “…ruler (prince) of this world…” (John 12:31). Now why would he do that? What could his true motive be in offering up the world? Well as we can see, it was a conditional offer contingent on our Savior bowing down and worshiping him. In the above scriptures we see Yahusha, after having been led by the Spirit into the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil.

Falling for the Lies

While in the wilderness, He ate nothing during that time, yes no food or drink, so we know that in His flesh he had to have been physically hungry and in a most vulnerable condition at the end of those forty days. Understand that it was no coincidence that the devil would show up with his strongest temptations towards the end and not at the beginning. He often comes to us when we are at our weakest and lowest moments, those times when our faith may be shaken, because he knows that we are more susceptible to turning away from the Father and falling for his lies and deception.

The Father of Lies

In this physical reality, the devil knows that if he can stoke the flames of our flesh just long enough, it will detract from us focusing on things of the spirit and in so doing, we miss the things of Yah. Yahusha provides us some insight into the character of our adversary when in John 8:44 He says, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies”.

The Devil Knows Scripture

“The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.  Yahusha answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone. (Luke 4:3).

“The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Yahusha answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.(Luke 4:9-11).

Clearly, the devil knows scripture which is why he attempts to sucker us into his web by twisting and contorting the truth to where eventually the truth sounds like lies and lies sound like the truth. Yahusha stood firm and swatted down every temptation or fiery arrow shot at Him by the Enemy, as the Word of Yah dwelled deeply and richly within Him. He didn’t sit there entertaining the devil nor did he waver in His faith. He didn’t give the devil any wiggle room to distort the Word of Yah.

Depending on Yah

If Yahusha had been depending on his own strength to see Him through His time in the wilderness, in dealing with the Enemy or if He had been living in the realm of the flesh, He surely would have buckled to the desires of the flesh and that is what the devil had been counting on. When the devil realized that he was not going to get anywhere, he departed for yet another opportunity. Praise be to Yah, that Yahusha depended on Him and His Word and not on His flesh.  He had armed Himself not with the physical, but with the spiritual weapons of warfare… Are you spiritually ready for battle?  For the time is drawing near.
